Fez, May 23, 2012

This week, from May 21 through 28, the second edition of the Islamic Culture Week Festival is held in the Italian capital of Rome with the participation of several countries including Morocco. The event is organized by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), jointly with the Municipality of Rome and under the supervision of the Mayor of Rome, Mr. Gianni Alemanno. The event is in collaboration with the Islamic Cultural Center of Rome.

This event is an opportunity for attendees to discover the greatness of the Islamic civilization and to present moments of spirituality through seminars, lectures, round-tables, exhibitions, films and musical evenings.

The Islamic Culture Week Festival, which will include an exhibition on pilgrimage and its routes, will be hosted by the Great Mosque in Rome in cooperation with the embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Two seminars will also be held. The first one entitled “Rome – the Capital meets the Muslim community” and the second “A meeting with the new Mediterranean.”

A tent will also be set in the heart of Rome at the Piazza Navona square by the Moroccan embassy in Rome, which will host various cultural forms of Islamic civilization and arts. The tent will also host a concert of the Moroccan Sahrawi musical group Mnat ‘Aishata that will enchant the audience with authentic Hassani poems and rhythms.

Moroccan craftsmen will also have a chance to exhibit to the public their traditional crafts in different museums and squares across Rome, even in its Great Mosque.

The program of the cultural week also features a meeting on Ibn Rushd (Averroes) philosophy to highlight the contribution of Muslim scholars to the advancement of universal thought. In addition to readings of Jalal al-Din Rumi’s poems will be given as part of promotion of dialogue of cultures and religions.

The event is held to stress and confirm that Rome is and will always be the capital of dialogue and peaceful coexistence between nations and religions in respect of the different identities therein.
