According to the ” National Directorate of the Weather”, the heat wave gripping Morocco has broken a record for the second time since 1992. This summer’s temperature is expected to reach around 50 degrees Celsius, especially in the mid-south and south of Morocco, such as Souss and Draa region, Azilal, Khnifra, and Beni Mlal.
In an interview with Rabat Chain Inter radio, Mohamed El Baalouchi, national director of the weather, expects the arrival of heat waves from the scorching southern desert whose high temperature will sweep all over the mid- and northern Morocco.
For example, Zagora and Tata, southern cities, have registered unprecedented 53 to 60 degrees Celsius. Also, temperatures are expected to rise slightly to up to 44 degrees in mid-Morocco.
According to medical sources, doctors stress that too much exposure to this year’s scorching sun may lead to skin cancer, particularly for the elderly and children who suffer from asthma and allergies. Studies have revealed that being exposed to the sun’s rays during the day can be hazardous to the immune system.
Doctors recommend taking precautions against any damage that can result from the scorching sun, particularly during Ramadan.
