Rabat, Nov 9, 2012 (MAP)

The board of directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved, on Wednesday, a loan of 2 billion dirhams (MAD) to Morocco to finance a water-supply project in the Marrakech region.

The project will benefit approximately 2 million people by 2017 then 3 million by 2030, including more than one million people in rural areas.

AfDB resident representative in Morocco, Amani Abou-Zeid, said, Thursday during a press conference, that the Bank will finance 60% of the total cost of the project.

She pointed out that this new loan, the 13th in the water sector, makes AfDB the first donor to the sector in Morocco.

The Bank approved this year loans to Morocco worth 646 million Euros.
