Rabat – President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, has revealed that the Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane, near Casablanca, will host matches involving Morocco’s national football team, Raja Club Athletic, and Wydad Athletic Club.
Speaking during an interview on 2M’s “Sa’at Al Saraha” (Hour of Frankness) program on Wednesday, October 28, Lekjaa discussed the stadium’s future role in Moroccan football and the country’s preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The stadium is expected to be ready in early 2028 and is among the key infrastructure projects linked to Morocco’s preparations to co-host the tournament with Spain and Portugal.
Beyond international competitions, the venue will provide a new setting for Morocco’s national team and Casablanca’s two major clubs, Raja and Wydad.
Test events planned before the 2030 World Cup
The Hassan II Stadium is also expected to host several sporting events and test competitions before the 2030 World Cup.
These events will allow organizers to assess the venue’s technical and logistical readiness and ensure that it meets the requirements for hosting major international matches.
The tests will provide an opportunity to evaluate stadium operations ahead of the tournament, which Morocco will organize alongside Spain and Portugal.
The venue is expected to become one of the largest football stadiums in the world, making it a major addition to Morocco’s sporting infrastructure.
Lekjaa has also highlighted the stadium’s chances of hosting the 2030 World Cup final, pointing to its capacity, modern design, and international safety and sustainability standards.
FIFA has yet to announce the venue for the final.
A major project for Greater Casablanca
The FRMF president also emphasized the stadium’s importance for the wider development of Greater Casablanca.
The project forms part of a broader plan to modernize the region’s infrastructure and improve transportation connections.
Investments in high-speed rail, railway networks, and tramway services are expected to improve mobility and access to the stadium.
These developments aim to ensure that the venue serves both major sporting events and the region’s long-term urban development.
The stadium is therefore expected to play a role in Moroccan football beyond the 2030 World Cup, providing a venue for national-team matches and games involving Raja and Wydad.
With completion scheduled for early 2028, organizers will have time to test the facility before the tournament and prepare it for major domestic and international fixtures.
