Buenos Aires – The Tindouf camps have witnessed a violent crackdown by the militias of Polisario and Algerian security forces, notably against the members of the Rguibat-Souaed tribes, noted on Tuesday, Argentine Press Agency “Telam“.

In reaction to the violent repression, the Rguibat-Souaed tribe of Laayoune called the Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki-moon to intervene immediately to “put an end to the violations committed by the Polisario militia and Algerian forces” against demonstrators in the Tindouf camps (south- western Algeria), where thousands of Sahrawis are detained by separatists who prevent them from leaving the camps, The Argentine news agency said in an article devoted to these incidents.

To denounce their deplorable living conditions and restrictions on freedom of movement and expression, and the abuses they suffer daily, the camp population began a protest that was brutally suppressed, Telam added, noting that the protesters had previously staged a peaceful sit -in outside the office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Tindouf, which was violently suppressed.

In a statement reported by Telam, the sheikhs of the Rguibat-Souaed tribe expressed their strong condemnation of the “barbaric intervention of the militia of the Polisario and the Algerian forces against the youth and women, and especially against the descendants of the tribe of Rguibat-Souaed who took part in this peaceful sit-in.”
