Fez – King Mohammed VI is on Tuesday appointed Fadel Benyaich, Morocco’s new Ambassador to Spain.

The announcement was made during the council of ministers, which was chaired by King Mohammed VI in Rabat.

The post of Ambassador to Madrid is a highly sensitive responsibility and Morocco’s Kings has often made sure to nominate people who enjoy their trust and know closely the complexities of the relations between Morocco and Spain.

And Mr. Fadel Benyaich has all these requirements for the job, since not only does he speak perfect Spanish and is well versed in these relations, but he has been a close friend to King Mohammed for the past four decades.

In addition, since King Mohammed VI accession to the throne, Benyaich, who is much respected in Spain, was entrusted with Spanish affairs in the royal cabinet.

Besides political affairs, Benyaich has been also “the channel used by large Spanish companies to access the royal palace and present their business proposals,” according to the El Pais.

Benyaich will replace Ahmed Ould Souilem, a former prominent figure in the Polisario, who was appointed Morocco’s Ambassador to Spain in 2010.
