Rabat – In the midst of the Israeli bombardment of Gaza, American Pop Diva Rihanna has stirred controversy after she apparently tweeted “#FreePalestine”on Tuesday before deleting it, 8 minutes later.
As Rihanna tweeted #FreePalestine, choosing the Palestinian side in their ongoing conflict with Israel, the American Pop star received many angry responses from her fans.
The tweet was posted shortly after the proposed Middle East cease fire fell apart.
Her pro-Palestine message was retweeted seven thousand times, before she took it down, 8minutes later.
Rihanna’s “controversial” tweet attracted the attention of media worldwide, with thousands of her fans curious to find out why she deleted her supporting message to Palestine. But the pop diva did not offer any comment until now.
However, a source close to the singer told TMZ that she was reading about the conflict when she inadvertently tweeted it.
“She deleted it because it was never meant to be tweeted,” the source explained. “She didn’t even realize it was a tweet until she started hearing from her fans.”
“Rihanna is not pro-Palestine or pro-Israel …she is pro-peace. She doesn’t want innocent people dying,” the source concluded.
Three days ago, NBA star Dwight Howard sent out the exact same tweet and quickly deleted it, explaining, “Previous tweet was a mistake. I have never commented on international politics and never will.”
