Rabat – Swiss media commended Morocco’s impressive victory over the Netherlands, describing the Atlas Lions as deserved winners after a thrilling World Cup knockout match.
Several Swiss outlets highlighted Morocco’s resilience and fighting spirit after the team scored an equalizer in the dying moments (90+1 minute), later winning on penalties 3-2 following a dominant display in extra time. The result secured Morocco’s place in the Round of 16, where it will face Canada.
The Swiss press also praised goalkeeper Yassine Bounou for his decisive role in the shootout. Bono made the crucial save from the Netherlands’ fifth penalty before Ismael Saibari calmly converted the winning spot kick.
The newspaper Blick called the game one of the most exciting matches of the tournament. It described Morocco’s 91st minute equalizer as “the moment of the night,” arguing that the dramatic late-minute goal gave Morocco a tactical and psychological edge over their opponents.
Swiss public broadcaster RTS reported that the Atlas Lions’ victory was fully deserved, noting that Morocco can continue to “believe in their star” at this World Cup. In their match analysis, the Swiss network pointed out that Morocco looked much more dangerous in the final periods of the game, creating the only genuine goal-scoring chance during extra time while the Netherlands offered very little offensively.
According to the same source, the turning point came from Morocco’s tactical substitutions. They specifically praised young substitute Chemsdine Talbi for delivering a perfect cross in the 91st minute, allowing defender Issa Diop to score the decisive equalizer that forced extra time and paved the way for the penalty shootout victory.
