Rabat- Travel experts revealed that Tangier and Agadir are among the top ten cities featured in Tweets featuring “holiday” words and the most popular holiday spots for British tourists.

Agadir and Tangier top the list of “trending” winter escapes in a list that was published for the first time by TravelSupermarket researchers.

According to the Mirror, TravelSupermarket researchers discovered that not only are the two Moroccan cities the most popular destinations for UK travelers, but they are also the top trending ‘holiday’ words on Twitter.

Agadir is first on the list, while Tangier ranks second, ahead of Abu Dhabi (UAE), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Costa Rica (Central America), and Miami (USA).

Researchers further revealed that Agadir and Tangier became main draws due to the short flight distance from the United Kingdom to North Africa.

The report revealed that flight route from UK to Agadir has seen searches increase by 226% compared to the same time last year.

According to the same source, Morocco’s northern coastal destination, Tangier, has seen an increase of over 50% in recent months in terms of the frequency it is mentioned on social media.

The Mirror quoted Bob Atkinson, a travel expert from TravelSupermarket, as saying that researchers have identified the top ten up-and-coming winter destinations for people who want to try something new this season.
“Our findings highlight that it’s not so much the destination you visit but the experience it can offer and how people can make the most of it,” he explained.
The assessment procedure used by the travel comparison site included reviewing site data for increases in bookings and web searches, and then compared the results against social mentions on Twitter.

Twitter’s Top 10 Destinations for winter escapes are as follows:

1. Agadir, Morocco

2. Tangier, Morocco

3. Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.

4. Colombo, Sri Lanka

5. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

6. Costa Rica, Central America

7. Miami, U.S.A.

8. Seychelles, Indian Ocean

9. Antigua, Caribbean

10. The Bahamas
