Rabat – Morocco’s refusal to participate in the Republican march on Sunday in Paris created controversy on social media. The reactions of the French people to the decision of the kingdom, “France’s ally,” remain divided. However, the Algerians hailed Morocco’s decision.
While some French social media users associated Morocco with terrorism as it decided not to take part in the Paris rally, others applaud its decision.
“Being against the cartoons does not mean that one is for terrorists,” read a comment.
A Facebook user believes that Morocco has the right not to attend since the cartoons mocking the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), will be used during the rally.
“Respect! I add that there was also a big war criminal NETENYAHOU,” Said Amel Rabbouch.
The Algerians stood by Moroccans in this “brave” decision.
“Good, Moroccans! I am Algerian. I am ashamed of the minister (in reference to Algeria’s Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra) who took part in the rally that mocks Islam,” said Ahcene Messaoudi, who identified himself as Algerian.
Another person, Ali Rechid, who introduced himself as Algerian, said “I am Algerian and I welcome the Moroccan decision. It is with these actions that we will recover our dignity.”
Morocco is the only North African country that refused to take part in the Paris rally against terrorism because of the presence of the controversial cartoons mocking the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) in the rally.
