Geneva – The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Margaret Chan, paid, Friday in Geneva, tribute to Princess Lalla Salma for her efforts in combating cancer.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 68th World Health Assembly, Magaret cited in particular the introduction of human papillomavirus infection (HPV) vaccine, at the initiative of the Lalla Salma Foundation for Cancer Prevention and Treatment.

On this occasion, Director of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), Christopher Wild, hailed the accession of Morocco to this center to become the first African country and the 25th country in the world to join this specialized WHO agency.

The organizers of this meeting hailed Morocco’s support to the fight against cancer in Africa, thanks to the personal engagement of Princess Lalla Salma.

The meeting tackled the means to prevent and combat this devastating disease, as well as the progress made to curb the epidemic in the light of the Political Declaration of the High-level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases in 2011.
