Rabat – British journalist Piers Morgan has received harsh criticism on twitter for saying that the attackers who carried out the terrorist attack in Paris late on Friday, ‘were not really Muslim.’

“These murderers aren’t refugees nor are they real Muslims. They’re terrorists who’ve hijacked a religion for nefarious gain,” tweeted Piers Morgan late on Friday night, shortly after several terrorist attacks hit Paris.

Morgan received a backlash over his pro-Islam tweet, with a twitter user accusing him of excusing ‘Islamic violence’ and labeling him as an ‘ass*’ for that.

Sandy, another twitter user responded to his tweet saying: ‘’Well, those fake [Muslim] used real bombs, real guns, and praised Allah in a well coordinated attack.”

“Piers Morgan’s line of thinking allows things like Paris [attacks] to happen,’’ tweeted another user identified as Billy Jack.

Piers Morgan was also criticized by some media outlets such as The Right Scoop which called him “idiot” over his tweet.

“We all stand horrified at the terror attack in Paris, but it takes a special kind of degenerate idiot to immediately claim that the guys screaming “Allahu Akbar” while killing infidels isn’t *really* Muslim,’’ the publication wrote.

Meanwhile, Morgan defended his remark in his column published this Saturday on the Daily Mail.

“ISIS aren’t real Muslims, as some still maintain,” wrote Piers Morgan, adding that  ISIS jihadists are just gangsters who’ve hijacked Islam to suit their nefarious aims, cloaking their hatred and violence under the faux umbrella of religion.

“They kill far more Muslims than anyone else, abusing the true meaning of the Koran to justify their bestial behavior,” Morgan added.

“So it’s incumbent on all the hundreds of millions of decent, civilized Muslims to help us eliminate ISIS. For their sakes as much as ours,” he concluded.
