Rabat – Moroccan actress Loubna Abidar could be asked to leave French soil at any moment after her short-stay visa expired.

The actress stirred controversy since last May for her role in Nabil Ayouch’s film ‘Much Loved,” which depicts the daily lives of four prostitutes in Marrakech.

Ayouch and Abidar came under heavy fire after porn-like footages of the film were leaked on social media.

Following the controversy caused by the film, Moroccan authorities decided to ban it in Morocco.

Last November, Abidar left Morocco and decided to settle in France following claims that she was assaulted by an anonymous citizen in Casablanca.

In an interview with French daily newspaper Le Figaro last week, the Moroccan actress said that she wants to settle and live in France, adding, however, that her visa has expired.

“I want to live here. […] My problem is that my tourist visa expired. Today, I am illegally in France. I do not have papers,” she was quoted by the French newspaper as saying.

Abidar went on to add that she has no other choices than going back to Morocco since French law requires that she go back to her country of origin in order to apply for a long stay visa.

“The normal procedure requires me to go to Morocco to apply for a long stay visa. But if I go there, I’m afraid they would not let me leave,” she added.
