Rabat – Samir Bennis has slamed UNited Nations Secreatry General Ban Ki moon and his personal envoy to Western Sahara, Christopher Ross in a live program on Al Jazeera on Wednesday March 16.

Current U.N. leaders do not have the skills to bring progress to the Western Sahara conflict, according to Samir Bennis, political analyst and editor-in-chief of Morocco World News.

In a video, part of an Al Jazeera English’s news show called “Inside Story” aired on March 16, Samir Bennis said Morocco has always been open to talks, pointing to a proposal made by the country in 2007 which offers autonomy and self-governance to the Sahrawi people regarding regional issues. “Autonomy could be a solution,” Bennis said. “But, Ban Ki-moon and Christopher Ross- Ki-moon’s personal envoy for the region since 2009- are not the best people to achieve progress.” Morocco submitted its autonomy proposal to the Security Council in April 2007. Ever since, the Moroccan proposal has been hailed as “seroious, credibe and realisric,” by major powers. France and the United States have described the proposal on many occasions as “credible and realistic.”
