Rabat – Police in the city of Nice ordered a woman in veil to leave the beach. The incident occurred on Saturday August 27, a day after the French Council of State ruled against the burkini ban.

On Saturday, nautical patrol in Nice ordered a young woman with her children to leave Carras beach for wearing the controversial swimwear.

The Belgian public television shows a video of two police officers on a zodiac approaching a woman in a burkini, with a  female police officer ordering  her to leave the beach. The woman complied with the order without protesting.

According to witnesses interviewed by the Belgian television, the woman had arrived ten minutes earlier. One of the interviewed witnesses shows her support stating: “I don’t see the point of disturbing someone bathing with a burkini, I am more disturbed by someone showing their naked breasts with children around.”

“Why was this lady asked to leave and not the woman showing her naked breasts? Women’s rights are for everyone.”

Another witness reports the incident “the children were happy bathing with their mom before being chased out by the police, it is sad,” a second eyewitness said.

“I too am Muslim; I wear a swimsuit (bikini) that is my choice. This lady wants to cover up that is her choice. We shouldn’t always think that it is her husband that obliged her to do so,” she added.

Nice and other French cities maintain the burkini ban on their beaches, disregarding the ruling of the French Council of State, which stated on Fridaythat ban was illegal.
