New York – The New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants, adopted on Monday by several countries, echoes the instructions of King Mohammed VI in the field, said Anis Birou, minister in charge of Moroccans Living Abroad.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the Summit on Refugees and Migrants, held as part of the 41st UNGA, Birou noted that King Mohammed VI called, in the royal speech on November 6, 2013, for elaborating a national policy based on a holistic approach and centered on the human dimension and human rights, saying that the New York declaration is part of this vision.
The minister underlined that there is a strong conviction that the management of the immigration issue is not the responsibility of one country, deeming that the security approach is not enough to address this phenomenon.
He added that this UN summit is an occasion to highlight the Moroccan multidimensional policy, adding that the protection of the dignity and the basic rights of refugees and migrants are at the heart of the approach set up by the Kingdom.
He recalled that Morocco provided education and health care for over 7,000 kids of refugees and migrants over the past 3 years.
The New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants expresses the political will of world leaders to save lives, protect rights and share responsibility on a global scale.
