Casablanca — Thousands across the nation have taken to the streets to protest Donald J. Trump’s win in the November 8 U.S. election.
After Trump won the election by a landslide (279 electoral college votes versus Clinton’s 228), many Americans voiced their despair by organizing protests in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston, among other cities.
Protestors chanted “Fu** Trump” and held banners that read “Not My President” and “Deport Trump.”
Though Trump’s victory speech promised to “bind the wounds of division” and to be a “president for all Americans,” many still can’t forget that his campaign was particularly divisive in nature, offending Muslims, women, immigrants, people with disabilities, and many more. One protest sign read: “No Racist USA,” and “Love Trumps Hate.”
Though protests were mainly peaceful, some incidents occurred. In New York City, fifteen people were arrested. In Oakland, California, demonstrators vandalized shops and attacked the riot police, the BBC reported. In LA, protestors torched a Trump head in effigy. They marched down the busy 101 Freeway, shutting it down.
President-elect Donald Trump and his wife Melania are set to have a meeting at the White House with First Lady Michelle Obama on Thursday November 10
