Rabat – Fresh reviews published by the U.S. News and World Report rank Mohammed V University as the 15th best academic institution in Africa this week based on measures of academic research and reputation.

The university located in Rabat was the only Moroccan institution on the list of 1000 universities worldwide. On the international list, Mohammed V stood at 866th place, with an indexed score 38.2 compared to Harvard’s 100.

The American magazine identified seven of the top ten African institutions in South Africa, with University of Cape Town, University of Witwatersrand, University of KwaZulu Natal and Stellenbosch University taking the top four places.

Cairo University  (5th) Ain Shams University (9th) represented Egypt on the continental top 10 list, while Tunisia’s University of Tunis – El Manar took 17th place.

Institutions from Algeria, Mauritania and Libya did not make the continental or international list.

The United States’ Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University stole the top three spots globally. American institutions took eight of the top ten positions overall.

The United Kingdom’s University of Oxford and University of Cambridge took 6th and 7th place on the international rankings, respectfully.

Earlier this year, in U.S. News’ Arab universities list, institutions based in Saudi Arabia and Egypt topped Mohammed V – Morocco’s premier academic engine.

At 23rd place, University of Cadi Ayyad Marrakesh directly followed the Rabat University’s rank on the regional list. The University of Hassan II at Casablanca stood at 30th place.
