Rabat – During a broadcast yesterday, Moroccan channel Al Aoula reported on preparations underway by Morocco’s security forces leading up to the twenty second Conference of the Parties (COP22), scheduled from November 7-18 in Morocco’s red city, Marrakech.
To guarantee the security of the participants and guests at COP22, 7000 officials of the Royal Gendarmerie, 250 police motorcycles and cars will be deployed throughout Marrakech. Additionally, units of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will be arrayed at Menara Airport and Marrakech’s tourist sites to help monitor the event and provide law enforcement.
To ensure the highest level of security during the 12-day event, a stand-by force of rescue teams and dozens of ambulances will be mobilized throughout the city aboard three helicopters endowed with medical supplies, as a precautionary step.
Earlier this year, Minister-delegate for the Ministry of Interior, Charki Drais, said, “Morocco’s security is equipped to ensure high security during the COP22. There is a proper coordination under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior.
Morocco World News reported last month that event officials will assign a specific group of officers to secure the safety of each dignitary and celebrity who will participate. Some expected to attend include Leonardo DiCaprio, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bono, Akon, Maradona and Robert Redford.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced earlier this year that 10,000 police officers were selected from different districts of the kingdom to undergo special training at the Royal Police Institute in Kenitra. These trained officers will be on duty during the event in order to guarantee the security of the participants and guests at COP22.
