Tangier – Morocco’s return to the African Union (AU) is mutually beneficial to both parties, former Malian president Dioncounda Traoré said Wednesday night in Tangier.

Speaking at the opening of the MEDays Forum, held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, Mr Traoré said that “it is time for unity and solidarity,” adding that Africa should pool its resources, overcome its conflicts and erase its borders instead of creating new ones.”

Morocco’s education system and health system are “good models” for sub-Saharan African countries, he added.

The former Malian president lauded King Mohammed VI’s actions, which promote fraternity between Morocco and the world, and particularly between Morocco and African countries.

He also reiterated his gratitude for the King’s constant support for Mali, particularly when this country was facing the most painful crisis of its history.

“Thanks to its geographical location, its know-how and its expertise, Morocco developed bilateral cooperation with sub-regional organizations in the south of the Sahara,” he said.

The 9th edition of the MEDays Forum opened Wednesday night in Tangier, in the presence of eminent political personalities, economic actors and decision-makers from all over the globe.

Over 3,000 participants and 120 high-level speakers will take part in the forum.
