Rabat – More than 18,000 Sub-Saharan students are currently enrolled in Morocco’s higher education institutions, with 6,500 receiving scholarships, said Mohamed Aboussaleh, the secretary general of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Training, on March 15 in Meknes.

These Sub-Saharan students come from 42 countries to study in Morocco and receive social assistance and support, said Aboussaleh at the 17th Forum “Arts et Métiers,” held March 15 and 16 by the National School of Arts and Crafts (ENSAM).

He explained that the ministry’s major challenge is to respond to the growing social demands on reception facilities and the need to improve the quality of the educational system. The improvement of the educational quality is one of the main pillars of the strategic vision of the reform of education 2015-2030, he added.

The education sector is currently seeking to develop the structures and actions necessary to accelerate the implementation of the missions of the National Agency for the Evaluation and Quality Assurance of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The Agency is responsible for evaluating the missions of public and private educational institutions, research institutes, training courses, doctoral studies, scientific research institutions, university corporations and the equivalence of diplomas, clarified Aboussaleh.

The Forum “Arts et Métiers” is an annual meeting that aims gather various socio-economic operators to reflect on the development of Morocco-Africa-Europe triangular cooperation.

Participants also discuss the role that ENSAM can play in implementing polices that stress on the need for openness to foreign economy and the opportunities for work and entrepreneurship created by major development projects and investment in Morocco and Africa.
