Rabat – Zouhair Feddal has blamed Mustapha Hadji, the assistant coach of the national Moroccan football team, for ruling him out from the team’s new lineup.

Feddal issued the accusation in an interview with Moroccan newspaper Al Massae when discussing how he not called to play with the team in its upcoming friendly matches against Tunisia and Burkina Faso. Feddal said that he has never expressed his view towards Feddal, which caused a feeling of discomfort between the two individuals whenever Feddal was invited to play for Morocco.

Feddal, who had played for Morocco in previous matches but was absent during the 2017 African Cup of Nations (CAN 2017), told Moroccan daily newspaper Al Massae, “I was surprised by the decision to be not selected in [coach Hervé] Renard’s list of 25 players, especially as the list includes players who are not competitive.”

The 28-year-old footballer noted that former national coaches, including Rachid Taoussi and Badou Zaki, used to shortlist him while he was playing in the second Italian division ahead of playing for Palermo and Parma.

“While I am in my best level since my transfer to Deportivo Alavès, nobody in the federation has contacted me to ask about my news,” Feddal added.

Feddal went on to say that the reasons for not being selected to play in Morocco’s friendly matches against Tunisia and Burkina Faso later this month,

Regarding the absence of AFC Ajax star Hakim Ziyech from the list, Feddal said that Ziyech declined to play for the Netherlands for the sake of Morocco. He  stated that this decision was courageous, asking Moroccan officials to take this into account.

Morocco will play against Burkina Faso on March 24 and Tunisia on March 28, respectively. Both matches will take place in Marrakech.

The matches are part of Morocco’s preparation the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, for which Morocco is set to play against Mali on August 28.
