Rabat – The Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party, Abdelilah Benkirane, has revealed that the King’s decision to dismiss him has had “some effects” on some other members of the PJD.

In a press conference held By Benkirane on Tuesday, following the partisan meeting convened to discuss the King’s decision to dismiss him as the head of the government, Benkirane said that some other party members have been affected by the decision.

“Of course, this issue had some effects on some brothers and sisters, but luckily, they were proud of the path of the party,” said Benkirane. He refrained from revealing the nature or extent of the effects.

During the press conference, Benkirane was expected to disclose the outcome of the partisan meeting that was convened to discuss the King’s decision to dismiss Benkirane, which came in a communiqué from the Royal Cabinet on Wednesday. Benkirane, however, said that the party would issue “a detailed statement” few hours later.

The Secretary General of the PJD added that the party’s meeting was “calm, clear, honest” and that, despite the seriousness of the matter at hand, it was characterized by “jubilation.”

Following five months of negotiations with different political parties, Abdelilah Benkirane was unable to break the coalition deadlock and form a government. Following his return to Morocco after his tour of African countries, the King was briefed on the current situation regarding the impasse. It was at that point that the King made the decision to dismiss Abdelilah Benkirane from his position, according to the communiqué from the Royal Cabinet.

In his place, the King has decided to appoint another member from the Party of Justice and Development to form the new coalition government, according to the same source.
