Rabat – A Public Prosecutor in Fez has been suspended and referred to the disciplinary council after being accused of abusing his power and assaulting security guards at a Marjane supermarket.
The accusations came after his son was caught stealing a phone charger in a Marjane in Fez while shopping with his family.
The son reportedly thought, contrary to the law, that he could not be held accountable, since his father is a Public Prosecutor.
Rather than intervening to apply the law, the prosecutor then proceeded to assault the guards, punching them after the police had intervened and arrested them.
After she saw the incident, the wife of the Public Prosecutor started yelling and shouting inside the supermarket. She then claimed that she fainted
The Director General of the supermarket, after viewing the incident recorded by surveillance cameras, called for the release of the three security guards and filed a complaint against the Public Prosecutor. He then met with the Minister of Justice, who watched the video and decided to dismiss the Public Prosecutor and refer him to the disciplinary council.
