Rabat – Amazigh, Raï, Gnaoua, modern music, Châabi and Hassani music artists will perform during the 2017 MawazineFestival Rhythms of the World.
The 16th annual festival will be marked by the performances of several Moroccan singers representing different musical forms that distinguish the diversity of Moroccan culture.
The performances will take place on Salé’s stage throughout the eight-day event. Overlooking the beach of Salé, the stage will host a variety of daily performances from 3-4 singers.
Let the Party Begin
The opening ceremony will feature Fatima Zahra Laâroussi, Moroccan singer of Andalusian
and traditional music. Also an actress, Laâroussi has released more than five albums, making her a renowned singer on the music scene.
Following Laaroussi’s performance, opening night will continue with performances from famous singers Abderrahim Souiri and Abderrahim souiri.
Souiri is well known for his talent for Arab-Andalusian music, with Melhoun and Madih songs including “Chems El Achiya,” “La Ilaha Illa Lah, Amoulati a Lalla.”
As for Tahour, he is one of the most popular Moroccan singers of Chaâbi music. He is invited by Moroccans to perform at weddings both in Morocco and in European countries as well.
May 13
The second day of the festival, the Salé stage will host Amazigh singer Mustapha Oumguill, who is a native of the high mountains of the Atlas.
Oumguil started his artistic career 20 years ago and has released several albums and singles. Among his famous songs are “Wa Zin Awa,” “Zmani Ghedar,” “Lkha omridridench,” “Ida Zman,” “Nhmed Sidi “Rebbi” and “Asawasir.”
May 14
Famous singer Hamid Bouchnak will feature on the third day. With his four brothers, Bouchnak created the brotherly band, Bouchnak, before deciding to pursue a solo career. To date, Bouchnak has released more than 11 albums.
On the same day, May 14th, Algerian, Cheb Kader, will take over the stage. The Algerian singer of Moroccan origin is one of the Rai artists who rose to fame in France.
May 15
On the evening of May 15, the Salé stage will feature Gnaoua artists including Maâlem Mustapha Bakbou, who was part of the Jil Jilala band.
May 16
Created in 1997, the Five Stars band will feature on stage Tuesday May 16. The band is made up by five musicians including Youssef Louzini on vocals, Tarek Berredad on vocals and guitar, Mohamed Elguennaoui on drums, Younes Elguennaoui on percussion and Mohamed Ettoumi on violin.
The stage will also see a performance of famous Moroccan singer Rachida Talal, who was the first artist to have broken the ban on women singing in the southern region. Rachida has performed on prestigious stages across the globe, including the Cosmopolitan in Norway, the Capitol in France and the Palais des Nations in Switzerland.
May 19
The seventh day will see Ribab Fusion perform on the Salé stage. The Amazigh band as wcreated in Agadir in 2008.
The same evening will also host Moroccan singer, Farid Ghannam, former member of the Mayara Band.
The End
The closing evening is reserved for several special performances of famous Moroccan Chaabi singers including Mustapha Burgundy and Haj Abdelmoughit, who is one of the prominent stars of Moroccan Châabi. He is an expert in Ayta Mersaouiya.
Burgundy began his career in 1980. At that time, he was a member of the Noujoum Bourgogne band. In 1990, he embarked on his solo career. Both a singer and a songwriter, Mustapha Burgundy writes his own lyrics and also plays the violin. Burgundy has become one of the most popular Moroccan artists today.
