Rabat – Twenty people were killed and 1601 injured, including 88 seriously injured, in the 1189 road accidents that occurred in Morocco’s urban areas on June 5-11.

A statement by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) gave the main reasons for the accidents as: lack of control, lack of attention from drivers, lack of attention from pedestrians, lack of respect for right of way, excessive speed, change of direction without looking and not respecting “stop” signs.

The DGSN noted that the security services recorded 31,150 violations, referred 10,375 records to the Public Prosecution and handed out 20,775 fines.

The statement also revealed that the fines amounted to the value of MAD 4,138,300. While 4,395 vehicles were placed in municipal reserve, 5,709 driving licenses were withdrawn, and the number of vehicles detained reached 271.
