Rabat – The number of credit card transctions made in Morocco increased by 84.9 percent in the first half of 2017, reported Morocco’s Centre Monétique Interbancaire (CMI).
CMI’s report analyzed financial transactions in Morocco during the first six months of 2017 and found that credit card activity had registered three million trransactions. This was an increase from last year, when 1.6 million transactions were made during the same time period.
The company added that unlike Moroccan credit card activity which increased, international credit card activity registered a decrease of 7 percent of transactions. This equates to 55.387 million transactions in the first half of 2017.
Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) recorded a total of 134.5 million transactions from both national and international credit cards. Cards from Moroccan banks dominated transactions in the kingdom at 98.2 percent.
