Join on Telegram Rabat – Authorities in Catalonia have refuted claims that the United States Counterterrorism Center warned Spain in May about the August terror attacks carried out in Barcelona.
Earlier on Thursday, international media outlets reported that Spain received an alert note about the Barcelona terror attacks on May 25. The warning note was sent by the US National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), claimed Spanish daily newspaper, El Peridoco de Catalunya
However, Spanish officials refuted the newspaper allegations. Joquim Forn, Catalan regional interior chief has said that Spain was not warned of the Barcelona terror attacks by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) or the NCTC, reported Fox News.
Forc added that “such alerts would be announced through state channels.” He continued that the state received other alerts unrelated to the August 17 attacks.
On August 17, a white Fiat van drove into the crowd on the Las Ramblas promenade, heavily frequented by tourists in the Catalan metropolis. The attack was claimed by the Islamic State, but this report has not been confirmed.
