Rabat – Public schools are now “in good condition” to welcome students for 2017-2018 school year owing to “the efforts of all stakeholders in the education and training sector,” Mohamed Hassad, the Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education, and Scientific Research, said Tuesday.

Preparations for the opening of public schools are underway to ensure upgrading and renovation of educational institutions, as a means of guaranteeing the success of students in the next school year, said Hassad in a statement to the press on the sidelines of his visit to a number of schools in the Beni-Mellal-Khénifra region.

Hassad underlined that, in order for the sector to develop, it is important that stakeholders engage in the reform of the public school, while praising “the teaching and administrative staff who showed a spirit of mobilization and will to promote this great project.”

The director of the Beni-Mellal-Khénifra Regional Academy of Education and Training, Abdelmoumen Taleb, highlighted the efforts of the administrative and pedagogical executives as well as the parents’ associations of the students, who enabled a 94 percent rate of development of rehabilitation of schools in the region, noting that the rehabilitation work will continue throughout the year.

He also highlighted the important support provided by public authorities, local and regional authorities, and civil society actors in giving new impetus to the regional program for the upgrading of schools.

In Khouribga, the minister visited Al Massira High School, Al Jahid and Fatima Ezzahrae Primary Schools, the Khouribga Specialized Institute of Applied Technology, and the ISTA multidisciplinary faculty.

In Béni-Mellal, this visit concerned the Oued El Makhazine and Nahda primary schools, the Mohammedia high school, the ISTA, and institutions belonging to the Sultan Moulay Slimane University.

The minister was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Higher Education and Scientific Research, Khalid Samadi, and the Secretary of State for Vocational Training, Larbi Bencheikh.
