Rabat – The Moroccan consulate in New York issued a statement warning Moroccan nationals residing in the state of Florida about hurricane Irma.
The consulate drew the attention of Moroccan nationals that hurricane Irma, according to weather forcast, will hit the counties of Monroe, Dade and Broward as well as the cities of Key West, Miami and West Palm Beach.
“Given the potentially life-threatening levels of flooding that may result from Irma, our nationals are reminded to be extra cautious and to strictly follow the guidlines of the local authorities,” said the release.
The statement urged Moroccans to stick to the instructions, whether they are told to evacuate their homes or stay in them or not take risks by driving their vehicles.
It also called on Moroccans to remain “alert” and “informed” about the path of the storm through social media.
The consulate told Moroccans they can call if they have any questions. The devastating hurricane already killed at least 20 people since roaring out of the open Atlantic.
Irma has been making its way to mainland Florida, causing over 300,000 people to be left without power.
On Sunday, Irma returned to category 4 storm as it headed towards Florida’s west coast.
