Health Ministry Launches Hospital Construction in Draa-Tafilalet Region, Reinforces Healthcare Infrastructure

Rabat – As Morocco seeks to improve its healthcare system, the Ministry of Health launched construction work for a hospital on Friday in the city of Rissani, in the Draa-Tafilalet region.

The construction project was kicked off by Houcine El Ouardi, Minister of Health.

Rissani’s hospital will be built on a land of four hectares. A budget of MAD 98 million was allocated to the construction and equipment of the hospital.  The project will be completed over three years, reported Maghreb Arab Press.

The Ministry of Health has also given five ambulances equipped with biomedical equipment and eight mobile medical units to health centers located in the rural areas of the Draa-Tafilalet region.

El Ouardi also allocated 180 tons of medicine and medical devices to the region’s medical centers. The supplies include medicines for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, asthma, mental, and psychological illnesses, thalassemia, ulcer, kidney disease, and medical childbirth equipment.

The ministry has also allocated 200 wheelchairs to the medical centers of the Daraa-Tafilalet region.

El Ouardi paid a visit on Friday to Erfoud, a city 22 kilometers away from Rissani, to track construction work on Erfoud’s local hospital.

A budget of MAD 120 million was allocated to build Erfoud’s hospital, which is currently at 40 percent completion. The medical center is being built on a four-hectare piece of land and will house 86 beds.

El Ouardi said that this visit formed part of the policies adopted by the ministry of health in order to reinforce the health sector in the Draa-Tafilalet region and to reduce health disparities across the kingdom.
