Rabat – The Qatari satellite channel Al Jazeera highlights the geographical diversity of Morocco in the first episodes of its new tourism program “Al Moussafir” (The Traveler).

The show devoted its first two episodes to five Moroccan cities: Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Fez and Chefchaoun.

Al Jazeera said it decided to feature Morocco because of the kingdom’s variety. “The choice of Morocco was made on the basis of different data, including the geographical diversity, balance between historical and natural values and elements of tourist attractions in the kingdom,” the channel said in a statement.

The travel program was prepared and presented by Hazem Abuwatfa, a television presenter for Al Jazeera Arabic channel. His journey in Morocco starts from Casablanca, where the camera zooms in on the Atlantic beach and the Hassan II mosque, one of the biggest in the world.

“We are in a land blessed by a vast geographical diversity, from mountains to green landscapes, to the desert and to picturesque beaches,” said Abuwafa in the first episode’s introduction.

The journalist then tours some of the renowned areas in the city of Casablanca on a small blue motorcycle.

Abuwatfa’s first destination is Habous, a neighborhood built by the French colonizers in 1917. The neighborhood is well-known for its shops selling traditional Moroccan handmade clothes and accessories.

The presenter then takes the opportunity to visit Bab Marrakech, one of the oldest Souqs in the city of Casablanca.

The journalist roams the city’s small neighborhood by foot, exploring the white buildings of the city. The program’s presenter then goes to one of the biggest sites in the African continent: Hassan II mosque. Hassan II mosque is the largest in Morocco and one of the largest in the world. Abuwatfa is fascinated by the mosque’s breath-taking historical architecture.

After Casablanca, the journalist moves to Morocco’s capital, Rabat. Walking through the city, he stops in Kasbah des Oudayas, which was first built in the 12th century during the reign of Almohad Calipahte.

Located at the mouth of the Bouregreg River, Kasbah des Oudayas was later became the refuge of Andalusia Muslims fleeing Spain after their expulsion in the early 1600s. While in Rabat, foreigners should never miss the beautiful historical sites of the city: Chellah and the Hassan Tower.

Abuwatfa stops in the two historical sites, where he captures the magnificent sights. The travel program’s second episode was devoted to Tangier, Chafchaouen and Fez. The journalist starts his second journey in Morocco from Tangier, the gateway between Africa and Europe.

He explores the beauty of the city, its buildings and its charming coastal atmosphere. Then Abutawafa stops at the Caves of Hercules, one of the most popular tourist attractions, located 14 kilometers west of Tangier in Cape Spartel.

Chefchaoun is the journalist’s second destination in the north of the kingdom. The northwestern city is notably known by its blue-washed buildings, as well as for its Akchour Waterfalls, a little paradise on earth just 30 kilometers from the city in the valley of Talembote.

The journalist then chooses to go to the spiritual city of Fez, 199 kilometers away. He started his journey in Fez by visiting Bab Bou Jeloud, a monumental gate was built and well-known tourist attraction built in 1913.

Roaming in the medina of the spiritual city, the journalist takes a look at some buildings’ handmade doors and handmade. The journalist also explores the city’s art galleries and handicraft boutiques, which attract the attention of tourists.

The new travel program’s two episodes were released on September 30. There are two further episodes on Morocco, which have not yet been broadcasted.
