Rabat – A visit by the Spanish football team to the Western Wall ahead of their game against Israel has sparked outrage among some fans on social media.
On Sunday night, Spanish footballers visited the “Wailing Wall” a night before their World Cup Qualifier game against Israel, which took place on Monday at Teddy Stadium, Jerusalem.
After the visit, some Spanish footballers posted pictures of the team at the sites to social media. Real Madrid star and team captain Sergio Ramos posted a picture of the trip to the wall on his official Instagram account, where he said that “it is a privilege to get to know Jerusalem and its history closely.”
Marco Asensio, Real Madrid’s midfielder also posted a picture on his Instagram account, saying it was “a historical visit.”
Some of the players’ followers condemned the posts, demanding an apology from the players, who in their point of view showed that they “despised” the state of Palestine. Many people commented that “there is nothing called Israel.”
However, others expressed pride in the visit, saying “Israel love you Sergio.”
