Rabat – A 36-years old man attempted on Sunday November 5 to set fire in a restaurant in Larach (a city near Tangier in Northern Morocco), before being arrested by the police and put under medical supervision to “verify his mental condition.”
The assailant, who works as street vendor, entered the Al Khozama restaurant armed with knives and a gas cylinder.
“He tried to use the gas cylinder to blow up the restaurant, but luckily the lighter didn’t work,” reports local media Larache24, citing eyewitnesses.
The security guard and the kitchen staff tried to stop the assailant, mainly by throwing dishes at him, added the same source. Police have seized knives and two gas cylinders and vials, containing an amount of gasoline inside his peddler cart.
“The police arrested the suspect immediately after he broke the Al Khouzama’s restaurant facade glass, which caused him injuries,” official news agency MAP.
Investigations are underway under the supervision of the city’s public prosecution to determine the motives of this criminal act, said MAP adding that the suspect is now under medical supervision to receive the necessary care and to verify his mental condition.
