Rabat – Moroccan engineer and inventor Laila Sidqi has won the gold award in the 2017 Bixpo Awards, an international contest for invention in alternative energy, held annually in South Korea.
With this crowning achievement, Sidqi has gained recognition as one of the most prominent young inventors in the field of electricity in the world, raising the Moroccan flag high in South Korea, along with other inventors who participated in the competition.
Layla’s new invention is a new light-emitting system that works without electricity.
“In the beginning, the invention worked only in the daytime, but I developed it to work at night, and it generates 100 percent natural light that changes according to the climate,” she says.
Leila has received a number of gold medals in many international competitions, including one at the International Invention Exhibition, and another from the Medical and Pharmaceutical Research Center at the University of Galati, Romania, in the field of alternative energy and electricity.
Laila’s family who received her at the airport of Mohammed V in Casablanca with roses and flowers, expressed their great joy pride in their daughter.
The young inventor grew up in the town of Said in the Taroudant province, from which she moved to Khouribga with her family and then joined the Mohammedia School of Engineers in Rabat to become one of the most successful and talented young engineers in Morocco.
