Rabat – King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron will inaugurate on November 8 the Abu Dhabi Louvre, the first universal museum in the Arab world to promote “tolerance” against extremism, said the Emirati Elnada News.
King Mohammed VI arrived in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, November 7 for the first leg of his Gulf tour, according to a statement issued by the royal palace.
The King is accompanied by Prince Moulay Ismail as well as his advisers, Fouad Ali El Himma, Yasser Znagui, and Abdellatif Menouni. Also present are Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, Minister of Culture Mohamed Laarej, and President of the National Museum Foundation Mehdi Qotbi.
After its inauguration on Wednesday night, the Louvre Abu Dhabi will open its doors to the public next Saturday. Five-thousand tickets have already been sold for this first day.
Designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel, this “city-museum” with 55 buildings will accommodate nearly 600 works, including 300 on loan from French museums, according to Agence France Presse.
At the end of his visit to the Emirates, the sovereign will head to Qatar on November 12, according to the communique. This is the King’s first journey to both countries since the start of the Gulf crisis in June, in which Morocco has positioned itself as a “constructive neutral party.”
