Rabat – Moroccan-Spanish attacking midfielder Brahim Abdelkader Diaz has no plans to defend his Moroccan jersey in 2018 World Cup, despite being called up for national team duty by Morocco’s football team coach, Herve Renard.
On December 10, Renard traveled to England in order to attend the Manchester derby. His visit to the game between Manchester City and Manchester United was not solely for the sake of football, but in order to convince the youngster to join the Moroccan team in the world tournament.
However, Diaz seems to be more attracted to La Roja (Spanish national football team) than his father’s country team, according to the international football news outlet Goal.
The youngster is determined to join La Roja, and might represent Spain in the World Cup after refusing Renard’s invitation.
Born to a Spanish mother, Diaz started his football career in Spain, playing with Malaga CF from 2010 to 2010. He moved to Manchester City for an initial GBP 200,000 deal. The footballer made his debut for MC in September 2016 as a substitute against Swansea City, and then signed a three years pro contract with the British team.
Both Spain and Morocco are qualified for World Cup. And they were both placed in Group B on December 1 during the final draw of the world tournament. The other teams of Group B includes Portugal and Iran.
Morocco will play its first game in the world championship against Iran on June 15. The second game will be against Portugal on June 20, while the last battle will be against Spain on June 25.
In efforts to reinforce his team for the World Cup, Renard is trying to recruit fresh players. The coach succeeded in convincing some of the most talented players of Moroccan origin, including Moroccan-Dutch footballers: Hakim Ziyech, Sofyan Amrabat and his brother Nordin Amrabat.
