Rabat – The new Minister of National Planning, Urban Planning, Housing, Abdelahad Fassi-Fihri, who has just been appointed by King Mohammed VI as a replacement for Nabil Benabdellah, is a member of the Political Bureau of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS).

Abdelahad Fassi-Fihri, who is in charge of training for the PPS, is one of the founding members of the party. His “comrades” praise his integrity, his discretion, his modesty and constant service on behalf of the PPS.

As a former Director of Studies and Cooperation at the Higher Institute of Administration, he has been named the head of the party commission for the upcoming PPS party congress in May.

The new minister has previously indicated that he is a firm believer of the left in Morocco. “If the left has a history, does it have a future? My answer is a categorical ‘yes’, a yes of conviction but also of reason,” he wrote in an article in 2012.

“The left has a history that merges with the history of the struggles of the Moroccan people for democracy, freedom, equality, social justice and dignity.”

On January 22, King Mohammed VI appointed four ministers to serve the vacant ministerial positions in the government after having sacked several ministers and high profile officials due to dysfunctions in Al Hoceima development projects since 2015. He also appointed a deputy minister to serve in the new African Affairs ministerial department.
