Rabat – Prominent Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan, who has been detained since February for his alleged sexual misconduct in France, was hospitalized once again on Thursday, according to French-based news outlet Le Figaro.

Le Figaro added that Ramadan was transferred Thursday from Fleury-Merogis to a supervised facility at the Pitié-Salpetriere hospital in Paris, according to Ramadan’s lawyer, Emmanuel Marsigny Reuters.

“The prison administration and medical staff have estimated that his health condition requires hospitalization,” said the lawyer.

Ramadan suffers from multiple sclerosis, which required his hospitalization on February 16. The scholar appealed the decision by French authorities to keep him in custody. He is being held as “part of a preliminary inquiry” into the allegations against him.

The Paris Court of Appeal, however, kept him in pretrial detention, a decision that may prevent the alleged suspect from putting pressure on witnesses and victims or escaping France, according to Le Figaro.

Ramadan is undergoing a new medical examination. The findings of the examination are expected to be unveiled by the end of March.

After he was taken to the hospital for treatment of multiple sclerosis on February 16, his lawyers claimed that his health deteriorated since his detainment, and argued that his condition is incompatible with imprisonment in an attempt to attain his release under bail.

The French court ordered a new medical report and found, on Monday, his health to be compatible with his continued detention. The medical expert also said that Ramadan’s pathologies are unlikely to severely deteriorate.

Ramadan fully denies the accusation and deemed them to be part of a “campaign of lies launched by adversaries”, which is a sentiment that was shared by his supporters.
