Rabat – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez highlighted Morocco’s “strategic” role in fighting irregular immigration before the Congress of Deputies on Wednesday.
Morocco has made a “decisive and effective” contribution to minimize the impact of the humanitarian tragedy of irregular immigration, said Sanchez, at a session to inform deputies of Spain’s position at the upcoming European Council meeting.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Brussels.
He added that Spain will receive more funds from the European Union (EU) to strengthen its dialogue and cooperation with countries of origin and transit of irregular immigration.
Sanchez stressed that certain countries collaborating in the management of migratory flows towards Europe—including Morocco—also require more funds to address this phenomenon.
