Rabat – The General Directorate of Meteorology is expecting rainy and snowy weather in several parts of Morocco on Sunday.
Rain or occasional thunderstorms are forecast in the plains north of Essaouira, the Rif region, the Saiss area, the Phosphate Plateau, Oulmès, the Mediterranean coast, and the High and Middle Atlas mountains, along with nearby areas and the eastern region.
Snowfall is expected on the peaks of the High and Middle Atlas, and in some parts of the Rif and the eastern high plateaus. Snow is expected to fall at elevations above 1,700 meters.
Light and scattered rain may also reach the Souss region, according to the weather authority.
Temperatures are expected to drop, bringing relatively cold to cold weather to the northern regions, mountain areas, high plateaus, and the east.
In addition, strong wind gusts are likely along the central and southern coasts and in the Atlas Mountains.
Minimum temperatures will range between -3°C and 3°C in the Atlas, Rif, and eastern high plateaus.
However, southern provinces and central regions will see warmer lows between 10°C and 16°C, while the rest of the country will record temperatures between 6°C and 10°C.
At sea, conditions will be calm to slightly rough along the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar. The Atlantic coast will range from rough between Larache and Tarfaya to slight or moderate waves along the rest of the shoreline, concluded the weather alert.
Several regions across Morocco have witnessed colder weather in recent weeks, with temperatures expected to further drop in the coming days and weeks.
