Rabat – Moroccan police arrested the sister of Moroccan singer Dounia Batma, Ibtissam, for her alleged involvement in the infamous case of “ Hamza mon bb” (Hamza my baby).
“Hamza mon bb” is a Moroccan social media phenomenon. Several suspects are implicated in the case for sharing videos of celebrities in order to blackmail them.
The account has been active on Snapchat since 2016, in addition to Instagram. The accounts share videos, recordings, and scandalous allegations about celebrities and renowned public figures across Morocco.
Police, according to several news reports, arrested several suspects involved in the “Hamza mon bb” affair.
The case witnessed a recent development when Moroccan media reported the arrest of Ibtissam Batma, the sister of Moroccan singer Dounia Batma last night on December 26 for her alleged involvement in the case.
Several news outlets confirmed that the National Squad of the Judicial Police also summoned Dounia for investigation into her alleged involvement in the case.
Moroccan Arabic-speaking news outlet Hespress said that investigations into Batma focused on her relationship with some victims of the notorious account.
Police also seized Batma’s phone to carry out technical tests in order to verify her possible involvement in the case.
Batma has denied all accusations against her.
Suspects already arrested as part of the case “confirmed” the involvement of Dounia’s sister, Hespress added.
Police reportedly received more than 70 complaints against “Hamza mon bb” accounts and the people behind it. One of the victims was renowned Moroccan singer Saida Charaf.
She told Moroccan French-speaking news outlet Le360 that shehas been receiving threats since Ibtissam’s arrest.
“After the arrest of Ibtissam Batma, Dounia’s sister, several people said I am responsible for her arrest by the judicial police as part of the investigation.”
She said that she filed a complaint against the “owner of Hamza mon bb accounts and not against Batma. But unfortunately, friends of Dounia Batma and her sister insult me and send very serious evil wishes for my unborn child,” Charaf added.
