Rabat – Casablanca’s Mohammed V international airport broke a record of annual attendance by crossing the 10 million passenger mark.

The airport announced on December 26 that the number marks the highest flow of passengers in the airport’s history.

The airport celebrated the success in a ceremony on Thursday. The National Airports Office (ONDA) and Royal Air Maroc organized the ceremony to celebrate the 10 millionth passenger who was boarding RAM flight AT 205 from Miami.

RAM launched the Miami-Casablanca flight in April.

The flag carrier, according to Maghreb Arab Press (MAP) offered the “10 millionth passenger a business class plane ticket on its international network,” along with other gifts from ONDA.

MAP added that Morocco’s Mohammed V airport hosts more than 40% of air traffic volume conducted by all Moroccan airports.

Air traffic at the Casablanca airport experienced “sustained growth between 2009 and 2018” with an average annual evolution estimated at 5% for passenger traffic and 2.5% for aircraft activities.

“The number of passengers transiting through the airport increased from 6.3 million passengers in  2009 to 9.7 million in 2018, while aircraft movements increased from 69,119 in 2009 to 86,565 movements in 2018.”
