Rabat – A Swiss businessman has donated half his fortune, €2 million, to provide shelter for a hundred abandoned children in Tahanaout, around 35 kilometers south of Marrakech.
“We need to save these children, guide them. It cost me €2 million. It is half of what I own. I have three sons. I brought them here and told them that their dad will give another meaning to half of their inheritance. I spent €2 million here with a lot of joy,” says Hansjorg Huber, the Swiss millionaire, in a video.
The Children of the Atlas Association, the beneficiary of the donation, made a short documentary showing the accommodations that host more than 100 abandoned children in the village of Tahanaout.

Huber, born in Zurich, Switzerland, decided to leave his country for the “immaterial values” of Morocco.
“I left my material fortune in Switzerland to find immaterial values here that I feel every day. It is amazing… Respect, love,” says the Swiss man.
“I am Swiss, but the only thing that I still have from Switzerland is the little cross on my hat. My heart is Moroccan,” he explained after mentioning that he has been living in the region of Marrakech for more than ten years.
Huber built a small village in Tahanaout to save abandoned children and provide them with shelter, clothing, and food.
“I have built this village here and I am asking you and people who visit to take part in [the project], come work with children, or send bags of your old clothes,” he said inviting people to help abandoned children either through action or donation.
“Or, if you have more possibilities, you can renovate a house, and if you are [very rich], you can simply build your own village,” Huber continues.
“There are more than 10,000 abandoned children in [Morocco]. They are abandoned by stigmatized mothers who usually have no other option. For people, a woman who gives birth to a baby without a ring in her finger is a prostitute. It is carved in society,” he speaks, condemning the society for the large number of homeless children.
At the end of the video, the man concludes by expressing his extreme joy: “Since I started helping these little [children], I became the happiest man on Earth, I became father to 100 children!”
