Rabat – Morocco’s security services in Dakhla, southern Morocco arrested 29 would-be migrants on Thursday, January 9.
The undocumented migrants, according to a security source, were on board a fishing boat.
The list of the migrants includes four Moroccans in addition to 25 others from sub-Saharan countries, Maghreb Arab Press (MAP) reported.
The operation is part of Morocco’s security approach to curb irregular migration.
During the arrest operation, police seized several materials used in irregular migration purposes, including engines and three bottles of gasoline.

Investigations are still ongoing to arrest all accomplices and organizers involved in the undocumented migration network linked to the case.
On January 9, police also arrested six suspects in eastern Morocco for their alleged links to a criminal network involved in irregular migration and human trafficking.
Last year, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) arrested 505 organizers of undocumented migration. The suspects were involved in 60 criminal networks.
Police also arrested 27,317 would-be migrants, including 20,141 of foreign nationality. Moroccans represented 26% of those arrested.
