Rabat – Morocco’s House of Representatives launched a renovated website, available in five languages (Arabic, Tamazight (Berber language), French, Spanish, and English), on Tuesday, January 7.

The new web portal provides access to information about the government’s commitments, questions from members of Parliament and their responses, and reports on subjects examined by parliamentary committees.

The portal aims to facilitate communication between the House of Representatives and citizens. It provides interactive services allowing citizens to comment on bills and legislative proposals. It also offers remote services for requesting visits, internships, journalist accreditations, and library access.

The launch of the revamped website is part of the communication traditions that the House of Representatives has established since the start of the current mandate, with the aim of promoting the principles of openness and proximity to citizens, explained the institution’s president Habib El Malki.

The website is part of the communication strategy of the First Chamber of the Parliament, he added, stressing that the House of Representatives aims to build citizens’ confidence in the parliamentary institution.

The move does not only express openness and interaction towards civil society, but it also illustrates a desire to promote the missions of the institution in legislative terms and to control the government action, concluded El Malki.

Visitors to the website can now take a virtual visit to the different spaces of the institution via an interactive map. They can also submit motions to the House of Representatives’ president via a link for participatory democracy.

The website includes a special section for children, aiming to allow young generations to find out more about parliamentary activities, along with another section for women that focuses on legislative texts and parliamentary interventions concerning women’s rights.

Additionally, the platform contains a special page for every parliamentary group, highlighting their questions and legislative proposals and informing citizens about their activities.

Finally, in order to combat fake news and rumors, the House of Representatives allocated a special section on the electronic portal to promote truthful news.
