Rabat – Morocco’s New Development Model Committee (CSMD) is determined to collect opinions and policy proposals from the country’s “vital forces,” including political parties, civil society organizations, trade unions, and the private sector, before putting together its report.

After seeking the input of political parties in the first phase of what it has dubbed a “listening week,” CSMD members met today, January 4, with trade union representatives to discuss the new development model.

This third session of CSMD’ “listening week” marked the presence of the secretary-general of the Moroccan Workers’ Union (UGT), along with other senior members of the organization’s executive board, MAP reported earlier today.

Also present at the session were representatives of the Young Workers Movement, the president of the Organization of Moroccan Working Women, Fatiha Sghir, as well as other trade union representatives.

The meetings began Thursday, January 2, and will continue through January 8.

Commission members are set to also conduct “listening sessions” with representatives of the private sector and associations. The commission has also announced plans to launch a website so that it can hear from ordinary Moroccans, although it is not clear when the website will be ready.

While the report provided no details about the meeting’s sticking points, it suggested that, as with political party representatives in the first sessions of the initiative, the main point of today’s meeting was to discuss “social inclusiveness and civil participation” as essential aspects of the country’s new development model.

With this initiative, CSMD hopes to gather different contributions and viewpoints on what is needed to make Morocco’s new development model more socially inclusive and sustainable.
