Rabat – A video of a group of Egyptian men sexually harassing a Moroccan woman on new year’s eve has gone viral on social media.
The video, shared by several Egyptian media outlets, shows a woman surrounded by a group of men.
In the footage the victim can be seen screaming for help. The incident took place in Al Mansoura, Egypt.
The video then showed a group of men trying to rescue the woman. Eventually the rescuers managed to help the woman into a car.
ERM News reported that the woman was attending the New Year celebration with a young man and another woman.
A police investigation found that the victim is a Moroccan citizen.
ERM News quoted security personnel, who said that investigations to identify the suspects involved in the incident are ongoing.
Security service technical experts are examining the video as part of the investigation.
The viral footage has sparked a wave of outrage online, with social media users from Egypt and Morocco calling the incident a “barbaric” crime.

“[It is sad] when a Moroccan woman comes as a tourist to spend a holiday and celebrate the New Year in Egypt and she ends up experiencing such dirty actions from savage people,” one internet user wrote.
This is not the first time Moroccan women have experienced sexual harassment in Egypt.
In the summer of 2019 in Cairo, a mob of Egyptian men followed and harassed a group of Moroccan women following Morocco’s game against Namibia as part of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
The mob included between a dozen and 20 men who surrounded the women and followed them. Like in Morocco, sexual harassment has increased alarmingly in public spaces in Egypt.
A UN Women report conducted in 2013 shows that 99.3% of women in Egypt have experienced a form of sexual harassment in their lives.
A poll from Reuters stipulated that Cairo, Egypt is “the most dangerous megacity for women,” due to the high levels of verbal and physical harassment.
