Join on Telegram Rabat – Fatma Aboudrar, a woman from southern Morocco who is suffering from cancer f has chosen to board a boat for irregular migration to the Canary Islands in order to seek cancer treatment in Europe.
Fatma shared a video of handful group of young people on board a boat that is heading to the Canary Islands. Boudra’s face shows sorrow and hope as she is sad to leave the motherland but hopes for a better place and opportunities.
The woman shared an emotional message, speaking out about why she wanted to leave the country.
“I have continued to say that I am waiting for a beautiful tomorrow, even though I am burdened by pain and this disease,” she said.
For Fatma , she will either find a new life abroad or die at sea. The woman dreams of a place where she can get a free cancer treatment, a dream that thousands of other patients share
A group of Moroccan cancer patients recently shared their painful experiences in a campaign to call on the government to ensure a free treatment for the disease.
In response, activists launched a national petition to ask for the government to create a fund to pay treatment cost for people with cancer.
Internet users shared Fatma’s video thousands times, with many people reacting differently to her decision.
This is not the first time a Moroccan migrant has shared footage of therisky sea route to Europe in search of a “better life.”
Over the past few years, hundreds of Moroccans have shared their risky journeys at the sea on social media.
Morocco has been increasing efforts to clamp down the phenomena that claims the lives of so many people at the sea.
Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced last year that operations against irregular migration resulted in the arrest of 27,317 would-be migrants, including 20,141 of foreign nationality.
Moroccans represented 26% of those taken into custody whilst trying to migrate without documents.
