Rabat – Moroccan Minister of Transport Abdelkader Amara affirmed on March 24 that he is stable in his fight against the coronavirus.

“I’m doing very well. I am working normally,” he said to Maghreb Arab Press (MAP) in response to allegations circulating on social networks about his health.

Amara is continuing his work from home, where he remains under quarantine. Clarifying that his health situation is “normal and reassuring,” the minister maintained that his family members are also doing well.

He stressed that essential health precautions against COVID-19 contamination consist of self-isolation, hygiene rules, and maintaining a safe distance from others, including loved ones.

Minister Amara tested positive for the virus on March 14 after becoming infected during an official trip to Hungary from March 9 to 11. After experiencing abnormal fatigue accompanied by headaches, the ministerial official sought medical attention.

Amara is the first Moroccan government official to test positive for the virus. After his diagnosis, the Moroccan government and staff underwent testing for COVID-19. All test results were negative for the virus.

To date, Morocco has confirmed 170 coronavirus cases, including five deaths and six recoveries as of 6 p.m. on March 24.
